According to investigators, Sterbens was driving his Ducati motorcycle northbound on Seminole Boulevard, just south of Park Boulevard, at a high rate of speed. A Mazda 3, driven by 56-year-old Laura Delzer, was exiting the shopping plaza on the east side of Seminole Boulevard and 72nd Avenue North.

Delzer failed to yield the right of way to Sterbens and turned left in front of him, causing a collision. Sterbens was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Delzer was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
