Career and Achievements

Suhani made her acting debut with the film Dangal (2016), directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. The film was based on the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, an amateur wrestler who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become India’s first world-class female wrestlers. Suhani played the role of young Babita Kumari, while Sanya Malhotra played her grown-up version. Aamir Khan played the role of their father, Mahavir Singh Phogat.

Suhani was selected for the role after auditioning with Aamir Khan, who liked her acting and cast her in the movie. She had to work on her Haryanvi accent, health, and fitness for the role. She also had to take a six-month break from school and stay at Aamir Khan’s apartment for nearly six months, along with her co-stars Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.

Suhani’s performance in Dangal was widely appreciated by the critics and the audience. She received praise for her resemblance to Sanya Malhotra and her chemistry with Zaira Wasim, who played young Geeta Phogat. She also won the Star Screen Award for Best Child Actor for her role.

As of now, studies are my priority. I have just been promoted to class 10. There is a lot of study pressure; it is tough to carry out anything simultaneously with my studies. After I finish my studies, I will be continuing with my acting profession. You will surely see me after 2 to 3 years in films I guess.”
