Olayide Owolabi Adelami was born in 1963 (age: 60 years, as of 2023) to the family of Oluka Oribokun by Pa and Mrs Amos Adelami. He hails from Owo, a town in Ondo State, Nigeria. He belongs to the Yoruba ethnic group, one of the largest and most influential in the country.

He attended Imade College, Owo, for his secondary education, before proceeding to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, for his GCE A level. He then gained admission to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He further pursued a Master of Business Administration degree from Ogun State University.

Career and Achievements

After completing his mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in June 1983, Olayide Adelami joined the federal civil service as an accountant II in December 1983. He was posted to the Treasury Department of the Accountant General of the Federation office in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

In 1988, he was transferred to the National Assembly Provisional Office, Abuja, as one of the pioneer staff of the Constituent Assembly, which later transformed into the present-day National Assembly. He had the privilege of setting up the Finance and Accounts Department of the National Assembly, overseeing the budgeting and accounting of the legislative arm of government.

In 1996, he was invited to help in setting up the Accounts Department of the Petroleum Special Trust Fund, a body established by the military regime of General Sani Abacha to manage the revenue from the increase in fuel prices. He also served at the Family Support Trust Fund, another initiative of the Abacha regime, where he helped set up the Finance and Accounts Department.

He returned to the National Assembly in 1999, following the return of democracy in Nigeria. He rose through the ranks to become the deputy clerk of the National Assembly, the second-highest position in the bureaucracy of the legislature. He retired from the civil service in 2018, after 35 years of meritorious service.
