His father “Dawa Sherpa” was an IPS officer posted in Uttar Pradesh, and his mother “Punam Sherpa” was a homemaker. He grew up with four siblings, two brothers and two sisters. Minga Sherpa is married to Ayushi Sudan, a teacher and social worker. They have two children, a son and a daughter. He is a devout Buddhist and follows the teachings of the Dalai Lama.

He is also an avid reader, writer, and traveler. He likes to explore new places and cultures and learn new languages. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Nepali, Tamil, and Oriya. He is also fond of adventure sports and has climbed several peaks in the Himalayas.

Career
Minga Sherpa always had a passion for civil services and wanted to serve the nation. He cleared the UPSC exam on his first attempt in 2017 and secured the 116th rank. He was allotted the AGMUT cadre and underwent training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. He also received the Best Officer Trainee Award in the 93rd Foundation Course.
He started his career as an Assistant Collector in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2018. He was posted in various departments such as Revenue, Disaster Management, Tribal Welfare, and Tourism. He also handled the COVID-19 situation in the islands and ensured the safety and well-being of the people.

In 2020, he was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh and posted as the Deputy Commissioner of the Dibang Valley district. He took charge of the district, which is one of the most remote and inaccessible areas in the country. He faced many challenges such as poor road connectivity, lack of basic amenities, frequent landslides, and insurgency. He also had to deal with the border dispute with China and the influx of refugees from Myanmar.
Despite these difficulties, he worked tirelessly to improve the governance and development of the district. He initiated several projects and schemes such as:
- Construction of roads, bridges, and helipads to enhance connectivity and mobility
- Installation of solar panels, LED lights, and mobile towers to provide electricity and communication
- Distribution of ration cards, LPG cylinders, and sanitary napkins to the needy and marginalized sections
- Promotion of organic farming, horticulture, and handicrafts to boost the local economy and livelihood
- Establishment of schools, health centers, and Anganwadi centers to improve the education and health of the people
- Organization of cultural events, sports activities, and awareness campaigns to foster social harmony and civic sense
He also displayed exemplary courage and leadership during the natural calamities and emergencies that struck the district. He supervised the rescue and relief operations and ensured the timely delivery of essential supplies and services. He also coordinated with the army, police, and civil society to maintain law, order, and security.

Facts About Minga Sherpa
- He is the first IAS officer from the Sherpa community, which is famous for producing legendary mountaineers like Tenzing Norgay and Mingma Sherpa.
