Brigadier LS Lidder Army Career, Service Ranks & Awards
Just after Passing the NDA exam in his first attempt Lakhwinder Singh joined the 77th Course of the NDA at the beginning of the year 1987. From there he got assigned to the academy’s India Squadron. Later from NDA, he went to IMA (Indian Military Academy) where he served as cadet sergeant major of his Alamein Company while appearing in his third term.
Getting promotion from IMA on 15th December 1990 LS Lidder was appointed as the second Lieutenant under the second battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles regiment of the Indian Army.
In the year 1992, he got promoted and served as a company commander and a battalion adjutant from 1992 to 1995 in the Kashmir Valley. During his work as a company commander, he coordinated and directed different small and big operations of his battalion.
Later due to his exceptional and passionate services with lots of courage, he was honored with Sena Medal (SM) for his services as a captain. He was honored with this medal on Republic day, 1994. Not only this he was also awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and the General Officer Commanding in Chief Commendation Card for his honest services. Lakhbinder got promoted as a substantive captain on 15th December of 1995.
Working in the Indian Army Lakhbinder has seen many different facts of life and has experienced life very closely. In the year 2000 after his posting in NDA as squadron commander, he again got promoted to the position of major on 15th December 2000. Earlier he uses to put Singh as his surname but in the year 2003 started using Lidder as his surname.
His passion for the military services helped him to complete different Staff and Higher Command Course which again provided him the new position of Lieutenant-Colonel on 16th December 2004.
During his services as lieutenant -colonel he commanded his battalion at the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There, services of his were a part of the United Nations MONUSCO peacekeeping force. At that time the complete brigade was commanded by then Brigadier Bipin Rawat.
After working in Congo he returned back to India and excels in his service by directing Military operations and holds the positions of Directorate of the different army operations. Before his promotion as brigadier, he has served as a military expert on different diplomatic missions for the embassy of Kazakhstan. He has also commanded the brigade in Himachal Pradesh near the Indo-Tibetan border.
After promoting to the post of brigadier Mr. Lakhbinder involved himself in writing different analyses and articles. He at that time got published his different articles based on Indian military developments. Lidder has also shared many things related to the Centre of Land Warfare Studies. Lidder was selected by CDS Bipin Rawat as his defense staff member only after he completed his advanced course at the National Defence College, New Delhi.

Brigadier LS Lidder Death in Coonoor IAF Mi-17V5 Helicopter Crash
MR. Lidder died in the helicopter crash of the Indian Air Force Mil MI-17V-5 transport helicopter. This Incident happened when he was serving as defense assistant to CDS Bipin Rawat and Mrs. Rawats’ wife and the rest of the onboarding staff in the chopper. The helicopter was going to land at Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu.
The flight was onboard toward Tamil Nadu because CDS Rawat has to address the DSSC institute students and personnel. But before reaching the destination around 12: 10 p.m of 8th December 2021 the chopper got crashed near a residential colony.
This colony is said to be of private tea estate employees on the outskirts of a village of Nanjappachatiram, Bandishola panchayat. It is a near area called Coonoor taluk, Nilgiris District where actually the helicopter fall down in which Lakhbinder died along with the other 12 members on the board. The flight was just 10 km away from its destination but didn’t reach it ever. Apart from this adding more in his death tragedy one on board member group Captain Varun Singh is still fighting for his life and is admitted to the hospital.

On 10th December a Cremation ceremony of Brigadier LS was set at Delhi’s Brar Crematorium. His wife and daughter were present there and gave a tearful last goodbye to Lakhbinder Singh. His daughter has been spotted weeping and placing a bunch of rose petals on the coffin of her father.
With a talk with media Lakhbinder, daughter Aashna Lidder said that “My father was with me for 17 years, I will follow my life with his happy memories with me. My father’s death is a national loss, he was a hero and my best friend. He was the biggest motivator of my life.”
Whereas Lakhbinder’s wife interviewing media on her husband’s cremation ceremony said that “we must give him a smiling end off.” She described her husband as was larger than life for her.
Geetika Lidder said in an interview “He was larger than life, everybody knows that. You can see how many came to say goodbye. He had a wonderful personality and has always used to spread love. Probably that is why people are also mourning my loss. But, we must give him a good farewell, a smiling send-off, I am a soldier’s wife. I have nothing more to say.” She felt tears after speaking with media personals.
