Washinton DC – As far as US president Biden and his take on Tiktok is concerned now followed by US former President Donald Trump’s Tiktok and WeChat bans are officially dropped on Wednesday, but scrutiny on China-owned apps will continue under the Biden administration.
Now, to replace the Trump era actions. President Biden has signed new orders calling for the Commerce Department to launch national security applications that are linked to foreign adversaries, including China.
So President Joe Biden has now gone ahead and scrapped the TikTok and WeChat bans that were put into place by the Donald Trump administration. However, what President Biden has said is that scrutiny of the China-owned apps will continue under the Biden administration.
To replace the Trump era sanctions. President Biden signed new orders calling for the Commerce Department to launch national security of use all applications, with links to foreign adversaries, including China.
Well, I’d like to point out that President Biden has asked the intelligence agencies to do a 90-day review on the Wuhan lab leak. And all this is asked is that a review is conducted of this particular ban, let’s be truth is that there are several very rich people and several very large companies in the United States that are extremely close to China, and which have profited a lot from business with China.
So my view is that Biden is ensuring that he builds a strong enough case. And once the case is built, I have absolutely no doubt that curbs and bans are going to be brought back. So frankly, this is a very temporary reprieve. It is not a permanent reprieve. And based on the information and intelligence that is being collected, including about the lab, the leak from the Wuhan laboratory, President Biden will make up his mind.
The other point I want to stress is that the Republican Party sees China as a huge political weakness for Joe Biden. They are out to stall all his important admin reforms in the US Senate because they don’t want any more jobs to be created under Biden. And for the Democratic Party to be strong as a consequence, both in 2022 and 2024, they want to win.
The second biggest charge, in case Biden gets a lot of jobs, that helps him and his party, Republicans don’t want that. They’re out to sabotage that with some members of his party. The second point is, Biden’s big weakness is that he is often called Beijing Biden, by several Republicans.
He is often accused of being too cozy with China. And it is a fact that his son Hunter, has taken a lot of money from Chinese entities that’s on record. So this is the problem facing Biden, China is a big vulnerability for him. So in my view, there will be quite an objective inquiry into this matter.
And I think an objective inquiry will establish, for example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first world leader to act on these Apps. These apps sort of very rich mine of information that can feed artificial intelligence machines back in China, and those machines can serve the PLA in its covert and overt operations across the world, including it seeking primacy and dominance over the Indo Pacific.
