Punjab Municipal Corporation Election Results: Congress leads Polls 2021

On February 17, 2021, the counting of votes of 109 Nagar panchayats and municipal councils began. In fact, the elections took place in various 2252 wards in seven municipal corporations in Punjab such as Moga, Kapurthala, Bathinda, Abohar, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Batala, etc.
The counting of votes began at 8 am. The major parties such as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have participated.

9222 candidates stood in this on February 14, 2021. 71% has been successfully recorded. On February 16, 2021, re-polling took place in three booths in Patran and Samana.
As per the source, this election plays a very important role in the assembly elections which will be going to held in 2022.

The SEC (State Election Commission) provided micro-observers in many sensitive and hyper-sensitive wards in order to get the counting of votes done smoothly.
In many parts of Punjab, Congress are leading in many elections. So far, it won 1,199 of the 1,815 wards (municipal councils). In fact, Congress also bagged 281 of the 350 municipal corporation seats.
They won with the SAD trailing at 289 and 33, respectively. Talking about other parties then AAP had 57 and 9 and BJP had 38 and 20.

Earlier, on February 14, 2021, many protesting farmers raised their voice against the BJP. They are protesting over the three farm laws in Amritsar’s ward number 37.
Several farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been fighting for their rights at Delhi’s borders. This is due to the withdrawal of the farm laws and legal assurance on minimum support price.
