Who is Callie Scherrey? Meet Miss Arkansas 2023 Runner Up

Callie Scherrey is not just a beauty queen. She is a nursing student, a dancer, a child advocate, and a founder of a nonprofit organization. She is also the runner-up of the Miss Arkansas 2023 Scholarship Competition, which took place on June 10 at Robinson Performance Hall in Little Rock.
Callie Scherrey’s Early Life: From Gymnast to Dancer
Callie grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she was a competitive gymnast for 13 years. She started dancing at the age of 15 and fell in love with it. She competed in several dance competitions and won many awards and scholarships. She also performed in various shows and events, such as the Nutcracker Ballet and the Miss UAFS Pageant.
Callie’s talent presentation at the Miss Arkansas 2023 competition was an acro jazz dance routine that showcased her flexibility, strength, and grace. She impressed the judges and the audience with her skills and charisma.

Callie Scherrey’s Education: From Cheerleader to Nursing Student
Callie graduated high school early to join the cheerleading team at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith (UAFS). She competed at the NCA nationals with her team and enjoyed cheering for the Lions. She initially wanted to become an attorney, but she changed her mind after two years of college.
She decided to pursue nursing instead, inspired by her mother who is a nurse practitioner. She is currently a senior nursing student at UAFS, where she plans to graduate in May 2024. She hopes to work in a pediatric emergency department after graduation.
Callie said that nursing is her passion and that she loves helping people. She said that her education at UAFS has prepared her well for her future career.
From Contestant to Child Advocate
Callie has been involved in pageants since she was 17 years old. She said that pageants have taught her valuable skills, such as interviewing, communication, leadership, and confidence. She also said that pageants have given her a platform to advocate for a cause that is close to her heart.
Callie’s platform is “Empower to Prevent”, which aims to prevent child abuse through advocacy, education, and resources. She founded a nonprofit organization with the same name in 2022, which partners with local agencies and organizations to raise awareness and provide support for children who are victims of abuse.
Callie said that she chose this platform because she witnessed child abuse firsthand when she was younger. She said that she wants to be a voice for the voiceless and empower children to speak up and seek help.
From Miss Arkansas 2023 Runner-Up to Role Model
Callie competed against 43 other contestants for the title of Miss Arkansas 2023. She won several awards during the competition, such as the Overall Interview Award, the Overall Talent Award, the Overall Evening Gown Award, and the Overall On-Stage Question Award. She also received $25,000 in scholarship money.
She was crowned as the first runner-up by Ebony Mitchell, the outgoing Miss Arkansas 2022. She said that she was honored and grateful for the opportunity and that she congratulated the winner, Jayson Toney, who is also her friend and fellow UAFS student.
Callie said that she plans to continue her education, her advocacy, and her involvement in pageants. She said that she wants to inspire other young women to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world.
She said that being Miss Arkansas 2023 Runner-Up is not just a title, but a responsibility.
“I want to be a role model for others,” she said. “I want to show them that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, and faith.”
