Mark Tucker, a professional bass angler from Kirkwood, Missouri, passed away on November 28, 2023, at the age of 64. He was fishing on Lake of the Ozarks when he suffered a heart attack and fell into the water. His fishing partner, who was also his brother-in-law, tried to rescue him but could not revive him. Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency responders.
A successful fishing career
Mark Tucker was a veteran of the Major League Fishing (MLF) circuit, where he competed for 22 years. He had two career wins, 13 top-10 finishes, and total earnings of $131,136. He also fished in the Toyota Series, the Phoenix Bass Fishing League, and other regional tournaments. He was known for his versatility, consistency, and passion for the sport.
Tucker’s most recent win was in 2013 when he won the Phoenix Bass Fishing League Ozark Division tournament on Lake Truman. He caught a five-bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 14 ounces, and earned $4,720. He also qualified for the Phoenix Bass Fishing League All-American in 2016, where he finished 22nd.
Tucker’s friends and fellow anglers described him as a humble, kind, and generous person, who always had a smile on his face. He was a mentor to many young anglers and a respected competitor to his peers. He loved fishing and sharing his knowledge and experience with others.

Mark Tucker is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lisa, and their three children, Tyler, Taylor, and Tanner. He also leaves behind his parents, Robert and Mary, his siblings, Robert Jr., Michael, and Jennifer, and many nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, who cherished his family and friends.
Mark was a lifelong resident of Kirkwood, Missouri, where he grew up and attended Kirkwood High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a degree in business administration. He worked as a sales manager for a roofing company for over 25 years.
Tucker enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on the lake. He also liked hunting, golfing, and watching sports. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the St. Louis Blues, and the Missouri Tigers. He was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
A tragic loss
Tucker’s death has shocked and saddened the fishing community, as well as his family and friends. He was a beloved and respected member of the MLF family, and his presence will be greatly missed. MLF President and CEO Jim Wilburn issued a statement expressing his condolences and honoring Tucker’s legacy:

Mark was a talented and accomplished angler, who competed at the highest level of the sport. He was also a wonderful person, who touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and passion. He was a true ambassador of the sport and a role model for the next generation of anglers. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Lisa, his children, Tyler, Taylor, and Tanner, and his entire family and friends. We pray that they find comfort and peace in this difficult time. Mark will always be remembered and honored by the MLF family.”
A memorial service for Tucker will be held on December 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Kirkwood Baptist Church, followed by a burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the MLF Foundation, which supports youth fishing programs and conservation efforts.
