As per the reports, this film is based on the short story ‘Tum Kab Jaoge, Athithi?’ by Sharad Joshi. Reportedly, the movie is directed by Ashwni Dhir, who is known for directing amazing movies such as Guest in London, Son of Sardaar, and more. The movie shows that a married couple faced a lot of problems when a distant relative came to them to overstay in their house for a few days. The movie shows that Puneet Bajpai (acted by Ajay Devgn) and Munmun (played by Konkona Sensharma) live happily in a lavish apartment in Goregaon in Mumbai with their 6-years-old son named Ayush. Puneet is a movie scriptwriter and Munmun is a Bengali interior designer. Then, their happy life got disturbed by a guest named Lambodar Chacha (played by Paresh Rawal). He met his late cousin’s child that is Puneet and began living with him.
He disturbed everyone with his baseless demands, gargling loudly, farting loudly, eating heavily, and others. He also got involved in each sphere of their lives and fired the housemaid. On the other side, the other people considered him a very good person because of his devotion to the local temple. He spent a lot of months with them. One day, Lambodar got missing and the entire family was just praying for him to come back and be healthy.
Afterward, Lambodar was about to leave the home and Puneet & Munmun were begging for forgiveness. At the same time, the real son of Putani (Lambodar’s cousin) arrived and asked him to go to his home. Lambodar mistakenly came to their house because the flat number was the same but the tower is different. ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’ movie is produced by Amita Pathak under the production company of Panorama Studios. It also includes a lot of amazing songs including Jyoti Jalaile, Dohe, Aaja Aaja, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, and Sukhakarta. The music department is handled by Pritam, Amit Mishra, and Sanjoy Chowdhury. The cinematography is done by Aseem Bajaj. According to the official sources, the film ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’ was released on 5 March 2010 in the cinemas. The distribution rights are acquired by Wide Frame Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The editing of the movie is managed by Dharmendra Sharma. Reportedly, the film was a commercial hit and had a box office collection of INR 390 Million which is more than double the budget of the movie. A cartoonist and author named Abid Surti filed a case against the makers, claiming that the film is the adoption of his Gujarati novel Bauter Varas No Babo (1976), which was later translated as ‘Bahatar Saal Ka Baccha’ and demanded INR 11.5 Million as compensation.
