What happened on Nov. 12, 2023?
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Kentish embarked on his stabbing spree around 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 12, 2023. He was living at the SUS Shelter in East New York, Brooklyn, where he allegedly entered the room of a 70-year-old man who was sleeping and stabbed him 15 times. He then went to another room and stabbed a 38-year-old man twice in the face and once in the elbow. He fled the shelter as a security guard called 911.
Kentish then made his way to the New Lots Avenue subway station, where he allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old man in the neck as he was sleeping on a 4 train. The attack occurred between 1:55 a.m. and 2:55 a.m. The victim managed to get off the train and alert the station agent, who called for help.
How was Kentish caught?
Kentish was apprehended by two NYPD officers who spotted him near the subway station and recognized him from the description that was circulated following the attacks. He was arrested on the same day and charged with three counts of second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, and other charges related to the incident.
