Tauktae Cyclone Expected To Hit Gujarat Today, Extremely Severe Cyclone

New Delhi – India Meteorological Department has warned that Cyclone Tauktae has intensified into an extremely severe Cyclone. The Cyclone is passing close to Mumbai and may cause heavy showers in the city. 1000s of people including COVID patients in Gujarat and Maharashtra have been evacuated to safe locations.

Cyclone Tauktae is expected to reach the coastline of Gujarat this evening between 8 pm to about 11 pm is the time when landfall will take place in Gujarat near Porbandar and Mahuva.

That is the location and at the time of landfall, the kind of wind speed we’re expecting could be costing 285 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has increased the number of teams that have been marked to undertake relief and rescue measures. The NDRF has formed 100 teams and they are being deployed in the coastal regions of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka as well as in a Tamil Nadu.

Well, the sea condition is rough, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. And this weather system has intensified while it stays at sea it’s moving it started making its way from Kerala towards the coastline of Maharashtra and Goa. The wind speed that we’re expecting all along and off the coastline of Maharashtra and Goa is expected to be 70 kilometers per hour, with very heavy showers expected in the region.

And from there on it’s going to make its way towards Gujarat where it’s got to pick up speed as far as the winds are concerned also, it’s moving towards Gujarat. Earlier we were expecting landfall tomorrow morning. But now the IMD has warned us that this weather system is going to make landfall crossing the coastline of Gujarat between 8 o’clock and 11 o’clock tonight.

It is going to affect all areas of Gujarat especially the southern areas of Gujarat where very heavy showers are expected people have been asked to stay indoors and not to move outside.
