IAS Arun Kumar Mehta Appointed As Jammu & Kashmir’s New Chief Secretary
Srinagar – A new chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir has not been appointed. IAS Arun Kumar Mehta has been appointed as the next Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and IAS Arun Kumar Mehta is going to be the new chief separately of Jammu and Kashmir.
Of course, the government on Thursday has gone ahead and approved the appointment of financial Commissioner Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, as J&K new Chief Secretary. The Union Home Ministry has approved the appointment of Mehta as an IAS officer of the 1988 batch as J&K new Chief Secretary after B. V. R. Subrahmanyam, who was moved to New Delhi and posted as an officer on special duty in the Union commerce ministry.
Well, Mr. B. V. R. Subrahmanyam has already completed his term in Jammu and Kashmir. He is a 1987 IAS batch officer and was appointed as Chief Secretary for Jammu and Kashmir. And in fact, is the man responsible for this smooth, withdrawal also article 370 and maintenance of the law and order situation of the land.
Because no violent incident or any such untoward incident was reported from Jammu and Kashmir after 370 article was abrogated. So he was the officer in charge at that time, and now that things have been put on back on track, so he has been recalled by the central government, and he has been appointed as officer on special duty in the Department of Commerce.
And in the same manner, Mr. Arun Kumar Mehta, who was an officer of the Cadre of 1988. And he will be the chief secretary, and he will take charge from BVR Subramaniam on the date he relinquishes his office. So the new incumbent is seen as a very promising and appropriate officer with a clean image and a lot of expectations attached with the new appointing.
The decision has been taken by the appointment committee of the cabinet order that was issued yesterday, and that is appointed BVR Subrahmanyam as a special secretary in the Department of Commerce.
The BVR Subramanyam is a very experienced officer. He was handpicked by the union ministry in 2019 when Satya Pal Malik was the governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. BVR Subrahmanyam put things in order just before the abrogation of 370 article.
And also when it was abrogated, and everything went on smoothly. And no major untoward incident was reported. And he is, you know, seen as a very innovative officer who introduced many things in Jammu and Kashmir and now he’s handing over the responsibility to Arun Kumar Mehta, who is seen as an equally honest officer and very upright officer and a lot of expectations are attached when Mr. Mehta.
