Arvind Kejriwal Announces Weekend Curfew In Delhi Amid Covid Surge

Delhi, 15 April 2021 Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced sweeping restrictions including a weekend curfew to break the chain of COVID spread. Now this move includes the immediate closure of all malls in Delhi. All gymnasiums, spas, auditoriums will remain shut in the National Capital. Till further orders. There will be no in-house dining in any restaurant. Cinema halls will be permitted to operate but only at 1/3rd capacity. The strict curbs come into effect after the city recorded the largest single-day spike of 17,282 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Arvind Kejriwal insists essential services and planned weddings will not be impacted during the weekend curfew passes will be provided to those attending these weddings. Of course, there is a restriction on the number of guests. The chief minister also said there is no shortage of hospital beds. There are over 5000 beds that are available for COVID patients in the national capitals. The chief minister also said restaurants in the National Capital will be permitted only to deliver food at home. One weekly market per zone will be allowed per day as a crowd control mechanism.

The positivity rate in the national capital is 15.92% past 24 hours. 104 people lost their lives in Delhi alone. Delhi’s fresh cases on Wednesday indicate this is the worst spike in any Indian city.
