Serum Institute of India Issues Statement ‘Never Exported COVID Vaccines At The Cost Of Indians’

Pune – The Serum Institute of India issues a very detailed media statement. I’m just getting the statement now and I’m reading from it. Serum Institute of India and the Cyrus Poonawalla group issuing a statement. Adar Poonawalla has signed off on the statement and it talks about the COVID crisis and the vaccination drive. The statement says and I quote –
“COVID-19 crisis has been difficult on people across the globe, including India. In the past few days, there has been intense discussion on the decision of our government and Indian vaccine manufacturers including Serum Institute of India to export vaccines. It is important that therefore, we make conclusions, we consider a few important aspects of the events that have transpired. Firstly, in January 2021, we had a large stockpile of vaccine doses. A vaccination drive has started successfully, and the number of daily cases being recorded we’re at an all-time low. At that stage, most people, including health experts believe that India was turning the tide on the pandemic.”
He says around the same time many other countries in the world were facing an acute crisis and we’re in desperate need of help. Our government extended support wherever possible during this period. And he says it is this spirit that initially led to Cooperation between countries when the virus first emerged at the beginning of 2020. The cooperation between countries also forms the basis for us getting access to technology and aid for healthcare.
Today, it is this reciprocity, where India has helped other countries with a supply of hydroxychloroquine and vaccine exports that has, in turn, lead to support from other countries. He says that we must also understand that this pandemic is not limited by geographic or political boundaries. He adds we will not be safe till everyone globally can defeat this virus on a global scale.
Further, as part of our global alliances, we also had commitments to Kovacs so that they could distribute the vaccines globally to end the pandemic. He’s gone on to talk about the vaccine program.
In the last few days, a few political parties are attacking the government for exporting vaccines. We have also seen the posters coming out and the blame game continues with that. But what is the biggest point which this press release is mentioning, is that Adar Poonawala continues to add is that and I quote – “We have never exported COVID vaccines at the cost of the people in India and remain committed to doing everything we can to support the vaccine drive in the country.”
That’s the very big talking point of we’re just coming out from this press release. In which now the Serum Institute of India is coming out and making it very clear that the vaccine was not exported at the cost of the people in India and that’s the biggest blame also, which has been leveled upon the Government of India, Central government by few political parties.
And this statement is now going to shut many people, many political parties have been trying to progress the entire thing and this media statement has compiled everything all the efforts are being made by the government.
Remember that the Serum Institute of India is also adding one more important fact is that when Serum Institute of India had a good stockpile of vaccine doses at that stage. Most people including health experts in India have believed that India was turning the tide on the pandemic.
Also, another point important point which has been mentioned in this press release. But what is the important point? Our biggest talking point here is that the Serum Institute of India has clarifying that no export of vaccines was done at the cost of people in the country.
