Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin Neutralises Double Mutant Covid Strain, Effective on UK & Brazil Variant – ICMR

New Delhi, 21 April 2021 – The Indian Council of medical research has revealed that studies have now shown that Covaxin, which is India’s indigenous vaccine that has been produced and developed by Bharat biotech is effectively neutralizing the double mutant Covid strain that has been detected in India. This comes as a huge relief given the fact that the double mutant strain is the dominant strain in India right now.

ICMR also said that Bharat Biotech Covaxin is effective against the UK and Brazil variants of Coronavirus. Both of the variants have been seen in India. So, huge development given the fact that the Indian Council of medical research has now said that they are sure about the fact that Covaxin is effective against the double mutant.

Not just the double mutant, which is the dominating mutant in the country right now, but also the Brazil mutants, which has been seen in India along with the UK variant.

This is something that the ICMR claims at this point that they’ve been able to neutralize on Covaxin vaccine made by Bharat biotech is helping neutralize the UK variant, as well as the double mutant strain that has been found in the country. But studies on these effects have still not been published. And the data needs to be seen as this is what the experts will say ultimately, because vaccines if the virus is developing an immune escape response, the vaccine data needs to be shown that it is indeed working against the new double mutant variant.

But ICMR India’s premier health body has come out on record to say that they have done studies that are showing that not just the UK variant but also the new double mutant variant. The vaccine made by Bharat Biotech is working against these.
