Trinamool Congress Asked EC to Remove PM Modi’s Image On Covid Vaccination Certificates

On March 11, 2021, it was declared that the vaccination certificates for beneficiaries and for poll-bound states and union territory will no longer have a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The change comes after the Union Health Secretary Shri. Rajesh Bhushan informed the Election Commission that the requisite changes are being made on a COVID vaccine as per the EC’s directions.

This issue was raised by the Trinamool Congress in Bengaluru, who said this goes against the model code of conduct that it’s election time right now. And it’s unfair for the Prime Minister’s photograph to be on those vaccine certificates.

The issue had started with the Trinamool Congress approaching the Election Commission saying that the poll dates had already been announced. The Prime Minister’s picture on these vaccination certificates was a violation of the model code of conduct after which the EC notice the issues on the 6th of March.

The Election Commission later gave the order to remove the photograph of the Prime Minister from the vaccination certificates that were being issued to beneficiaries across these four states and in one union territory. So those were the directions that had been given out by the EC to Shri. Rajesh Bhushan on the sixth of March and on the ninth of March Mr. Rajesh Bhushan wrote a letter to the EC saying that we are going to make changes to ensure that the certificates do not have the photograph, at least in these four states and in one union territory where elections are bound to take place.

All of their directions and guidelines will be followed. The letter that has been written by him on 9th of March 2021 and so now all the certificates that are being issued, from this point onwards, will not any longer carry the photograph of Narendra Modi.

So definitely a significant development and a sort of victory for the Trinamool Congress with which had approached the Election Commission with their complaint. And now those guidelines and the directions by Election Commission are being followed by the Union Health Ministry.
