Deltarune Chapter 1 Release Date
Deltarune Chapter 1 was released for free on October 31, 2018, for macOS and Windows; the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 editions were released on February 28, 2019. The game can be downloaded from the official website, or the Nintendo eShop or PlayStation Store for the respective platforms.

However, he has also said that he hopes to release them all at once, rather than one by one. He has also hinted that Chapter 2 might be released in 2024.

Secret Boss
Deltarune Chapter 1 features a secret boss that can be encountered near the end of the game, in the Castle. The secret boss is Jevil, a jester who claims to be the only free person in the world, and who challenges the heroes to a chaotic and difficult battle. Jevil is an optional boss and does not affect the main story, but defeating him rewards the player with a powerful item.
To find and fight Jevil, the player must collect three pieces of a broken key, and then have them fixed by a blacksmith. The pieces of the broken key are hidden in different locations in the Dark World, and can be obtained by following these steps:
- Broken Key A: Talk to the old shopkeeper, Seam, in the Field, and ask him about the strange prisoner. He will give you the first piece of the key, and a hint for the second one.
- Broken Key B: Go to the area with the second circle of Paper Dancers, and take the southern path. You will enter a hidden area, where you will have to fight three Rabbicks. After defeating them, go up the tiny road, and open the chest to get the second piece of the key.
- Broken Key C: Go to the Field, and solve the puzzle with the four switches. You will need to press the switches in the correct order, which is: down, right, up, left. A chest will appear, containing the third piece of the key.
After collecting all three pieces of the key, go to the blacksmith, who is located in the Bake Sale area. He will fix the key for you, and tell you to use it on the door to the prison. The door to the prison is in the basement of the Castle, which can be accessed by taking the elevator to the floor marked “???”. Once you reach the prison, use the key on the cell with the star on it, and you will meet Jevil. He will invite you to play with him, and the battle will begin.
Jevil is a very challenging boss, who uses a variety of attacks that involve cards, spades, diamonds, clubs, hearts, scissors, carousels, and devils. He can also change the shape of the battle box, making it harder to dodge his attacks. The player can choose to fight Jevil with violence or to pacify him with kindness. Either way, the player will need to survive his attacks for a long time, until he tires out and surrenders.
If the player defeats Jevil with violence, they will receive the Jevilstail, an armor that increases the wearer’s attack, defense, magic, and speed. If the player pacifies Jevil with kindness, they will receive the Devilsknife, a weapon that increases the wielder’s attack and magic. Both items are very useful and can be equipped by any party member.
Ending
Deltarune Chapter 1 has two possible endings, depending on the player’s actions throughout the game. The game tracks the player’s choices, such as whether they fight or spare enemies, whether they act friendly or rude to their allies and NPCs, and whether they follow or disobey the rules of the Dark World. These choices affect the dialogue and events of the game, as well as the outcome.
The first ending is the Light World ending, which occurs if the player follows the rules of the Dark World, and acts peacefully and kindly to everyone. In this ending, Kris and their friends return to the Light World and go back to their normal lives. Kris goes to sleep in their bed and has a peaceful dream. The next day, they wake up, and go to school with Susie, who has become their friend. The game ends with a cheerful and hopeful tone.
The second ending is the Dark World ending, which occurs if the player breaks the rules of the Dark World, and acts violently and rudely to everyone. In this ending, Kris and their friends return to the Light World, but something is wrong. Kris goes to sleep in their bed but has a nightmare. They wake up in the middle of the night and rip out their soul, which is controlled by the player. They then take a knife from their drawer and grin evilly at the screen. The game ends with a sinister and ominous tone.
The endings of Deltarune Chapter 1 are meant to be ambiguous, and leave the player wondering what will happen next. Toby Fox has stated that the endings are not affected by the player’s choices in Chapter 1 alone but by the choices in the entire game. He has also said that the endings are not the final ones and that there is more to the story than what is shown.
