Najam Sethi Responded to Jay Shah for Asia Cup 2023 Schedule, Tension between BCCI and PCB Rises

New Delhi, January 06, 2023 – Meanwhile, tensions are rising between the Indian and Pakistan cricketing establishments. Pakistan Cricket Board chief, Najam Sethi has taken a sarcastic jab at the Indian cricket board secretary Jay Shah claiming that he unilaterally announced the Asian cricket council’s 2-year calendar.
There was a change of Chairperson at the PCB last month with Sethi replacing Ramiz Raja at the top but there seems to be no change in their thirst relationship with neighbors India. The latest example came on Thursday when China’s capacity as chairman of the Asian Cricket Council announced the 2023 and 2024 plan on his Twitter handle.
The Marquee Asia Cup has been scheduled for September this year, though the detailed schedule and the host country were missing from Shah’s post. However, this is where it gets interesting as Pakistan is the designated host of the tournament, a decision taken by the ACC Board of Directors.
Sethi had a sharp response in a tweet loaded with sarcasm.
He said and I’m quoting here:-
Thank you Jay Shah for unilaterally presenting ACC structure and calendars for 2023 and 2024, especially relating to Asia Cup 2023, for which Pakistan is the event host. While you are at it, you might as well present the structure and calendar of our PSL 2023. A swift response will be appreciated.”
The BCCI is not keen on playing in Pakistan owing to the political tension between the two countries and wants the tournament moved to a neutral venue. Maybe in the UAE.

The erstwhile PCB board under Raja had threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup in India as tit for tat move. The marquee rivalry between India and Pakistan has been restricted to multi-team events.
They last played a bilateral test series in 2007 in India, and there have been no bilateral tours since Pakistan visited India for three ODI and three T20 internationals between December 2012 and January 2013.
