Celine Gounder, the wife of Grant Wahl (American journalist) who died while covering the World Cup says “nothing nefarious about his death”. Wahl died at the age of 48 on Friday during the World Cup quarterfinal between the Netherlands and Argentina.
He had described feeling pressure in his chest in the days leading up to that match. Grant Wahl had also revealed that he had been to the hospital in Qatar and been told it was likely that he had bronchitis.
After the death, Wahl’s brother had initially suspected foul play, but an autopsy report has confirmed that it was caused due to and take an aneurysm. His wife, Celine Gounder, who herself is a doctor said the autopsy discovered bleeding around his heart.
She added that no amount of CPR would have saved him. Attempts were made to revive Wahl in the press box before he was taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
His death prompted messages from various leading figures in American sports, including some of the United States team members.
