Spoiler Alert for Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2
If you have not watched the first season of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, or if you need a refresher, here is a brief summary of the main events that happened in the anime:
Nene Yashiro, a hopeless romantic, summons Hanako-kun, the seventh mystery of Kamome Academy, in the girls’ bathroom, hoping to have her love wish granted. However, she discovers that Hanako-kun is a boy ghost who died in the school 50 years ago, and that he is not the benevolent spirit she imagined. Instead of granting her wish, he makes her his assistant and binds her to him with a seal on her cheek.
Nene and Hanako-kun encounter the other school mysteries, such as the Misaki Stairs, the 4 PM Bookstacks, the Confession Tree, the Clock Keepers, and the 4 O’Clock Library. They also meet Kou Minamoto, an exorcist and Hanako-kun’s rival, who becomes Nene’s friend and ally. Together, they solve various supernatural problems and mysteries that occur in the school, while also learning more about Hanako-kun’s past and personality.
Nene and Hanako-kun travel to the Hell of Mirrors, a boundary where people’s insecurities and desires are reflected. There, they meet Mitsuba Sousuke, a ghost who was Kou’s classmate and friend, who died in a car accident. Mitsuba is manipulated by Tsukasa, Hanako-kun’s twin brother and the mysterious No.8 mystery, who is also a ghost and a sadist. Tsukasa turns Mitsuba into a vengeful spirit and tries to kill Nene and Hanako-kun, but they manage to escape with the help of Kou and the Clock Keepers.

Storyline & Plot
Nene and Hanako-kun go to the Tanabata festival, where they make wishes and enjoy the festivities. However, Nene accidentally falls into a fish pond and is transported to the past, 50 years ago, when Hanako-kun was still alive and a student at Kamome Academy. There, she meets Hanako-kun’s human self, who is named Yugi Amane, and who acts as if he knows her. Nene also meets the human Tsukasa, who is still alive and friendly, and the young versions of the other school mysteries, who are also students. Nene tries to find a way back to the present, while also trying to figure out what happened to Amane and Tsukasa, and how they became ghosts and mysteries.
Nene learns that Amane and Tsukasa were abused by their grandmother, who wanted to use them as vessels for the gods. Amane was the chosen one, while Tsukasa was the spare. Amane hated his fate and wanted to escape with Tsukasa, but Tsukasa was killed by their grandmother in a ritual. Amane was devastated and blamed himself for Tsukasa’s death. He also became the target of bullying and rumors at school, and was isolated and lonely. Nene sympathizes with Amane and tries to cheer him up, while also developing feelings for him.
Nene finds out that the fish pond is a portal that connects the past and the present, and that she can use it to return to her own time. However, she also realizes that she has changed the past by interacting with Amane and the others, and that she may have altered the future as well. She decides to stay with Amane until the Tanabata festival is over, and then go back to the present. She also hopes to prevent Amane from becoming Hanako-kun, and to save Tsukasa from his fate.
On the day of the festival, Nene and Amane go to the rooftop, where they confess their feelings for each other and kiss. However, they are interrupted by Tsukasa, who reveals that he is actually the ghost Tsukasa from the future, who has possessed his younger self’s body. He tells Nene that he has been watching her and Amane, and that he is jealous of their happiness.
He also says that he wants to take Amane with him, and that he will kill Nene if she tries to stop him. He stabs Nene with a knife, and then fights with Amane, who tries to protect her. Amane manages to overpower Tsukasa, and grabs his knife. He is about to kill Tsukasa, but Nene stops him, telling him that he is not a murderer, and that he should not become like Tsukasa. She also tells him that she loves him, and that she will always be with him. Amane drops the knife, and hugs Nene, thanking her for saving him. Tsukasa, who is wounded and angry, disappears, saying that he will never forgive them.
