What is the plotline of the anime series?
Grimsburg follows the adventures of Marvin Flute, a brilliant but disgraced detective who returns to his hometown of Grimsburg after a scandal in the big city. There, he tries to reconnect with his ex-wife Harmony, who was raised by bears, and his son Stan, who has an imaginary friend named Mr. Flesh.
He also works with his old friend Lt. John Kang and his new partner Det. Greg Summers, who became a cyborg after a freak accident. Together, they solve bizarre and gruesome crimes in the quirky town, while also dealing with Marvin’s arch-nemesis Dr. Rufis Pentos, a former music teacher turned mad scientist.
The first season of Grimsburg consisted of three episodes, each focusing on a different case. In the pilot episode, Marvin investigates the disappearance of a teenage girl named Wynona Whitecloud, who was dating a boy named Billy, who was found decapitated on the side of the road. Marvin discovers that Wynona was actually a werewolf, and that she was kidnapped by Dr. Pentos, who wanted to use her blood for his experiments. Marvin manages to rescue Wynona and arrest Dr. Pentos, but not before the latter escapes with a vial of werewolf blood.
In the second episode, titled “The Flute Show”, a film crew comes to Grimsburg to document Marvin’s ongoing murder investigation for a true crime series. Marvin is annoyed by the intrusion, especially when he has to deal with the actor playing him, who is nothing like him. Stan, on the other hand, treats the actor as a father figure, much to Marvin’s dismay. The case involves a serial killer who targets people with musical talent and cuts off their ears.
Marvin suspects that Dr. Pentos is behind the killings, as he is obsessed with music and has a grudge against Marvin, who was his best student. Marvin tracks down Dr. Pentos to his lair, where he finds out that he has been using the werewolf blood to create mutant creatures that can play instruments. Marvin confronts Dr. Pentos, who reveals that he plans to use his monsters to perform a symphony that will destroy the world. Marvin manages to stop Dr. Pentos and his orchestra, but not before the latter escapes again.

What happened at the end of season 1?
In the third and final episode of the season, titled “The Mayor’s Ball”, Marvin is invited to attend the annual Mayor’s Ball, a prestigious event hosted by Mayor Dilquez, a charismatic and corrupt politician. Marvin is reluctant to go, as he hates social gatherings and has a history with the mayor, who was his rival in high school.
Harmony convinces him to go, hoping that it will help them rekindle their romance. Stan also tags along, hoping to meet his favorite celebrity, who is also attending the ball. However, things go awry when a masked assassin crashes the party and tries to kill the mayor. Marvin tries to stop the assassin, who turns out to be Dr. Pentos, who has a personal vendetta against the mayor, who was his former bandmate.
Dr. Pentos reveals that he blames the mayor for ruining his musical career, as he stole his songs and his girlfriend. Dr. Pentos also reveals that he has planted a bomb in the ballroom, which will detonate in a few minutes. Marvin manages to disarm the bomb and capture Dr. Pentos, who is finally taken into custody.
Marvin also exposes the mayor’s corruption and fraud, which leads to his arrest. Marvin then reconciles with Harmony and Stan, who are proud of him. The episode ends with Marvin receiving a call from his former boss, who offers him his old job back in the big city. Marvin is tempted, but he decides to stay in Grimsburg, where he has found his true home.
